Undertake a risk assessment for both project and site. Mark the boundary of the area to be coppiced.Ĭheck for overhead services before starting coppicing work. Visit the work site in advance to gain a clear idea of what you will be doing on the day.Īssess the suitability of the project for the group you will be leading and the time available.Ĭonsider the following questions: How large an area can be coppiced in the time and with the volunteers available? Which individual tree species are to be felled or to be left? What tools will be needed? What is to be done with the products? Preparation and working with groups Site visit Unless deer are a problem, avoid piling brush on top of cut stools or where it will interfere with access later. Pile habitat stacks with the butts all facing one way. Dead wood, both fallen and standing, is an important habitat.īrushwood and excess timber should either be piled into habitat stacks to rot down or be burnt if so advised by the client. Clearing brushwoodĬlear the site, but don’t tidy it. Operators must wear protective safety clothing and equipment. To get a card you must have a National Proficiency Test Council (or equivalent) certificate and be able to provide evidence of continuing competence. Only those individuals holding a TCV chainsaw card may use one on any site where TCV staff, volunteers or local groups covered by TCV insurance are working. Sometimes a chainsaw operator may be needed in coppice work. Also let the local fire brigade know beforehand.Īfter work make sure fires are put out before leaving the site. If there is simply too much, small, controlled fires are OK, providing the client knows. Leave wood to decay where practical or chop it up for mulch. Situate it so that the smoke does not blow across the work area but close enough to minimise the amount of dragging. It may still be necessary in coppice work to use fires to burn excess regrowth. Timber which is to be seasoned should be stored as a cord – prior to removal from the wood. Make sure clearing and stacking keep pace with felling. Stacking and clearing should be done thoroughly to avoid problems later. Two people should sort the wood before it is stacked or burnt. Don’t let anyone walk underneath the tree until you have dealt with it. If the tree is too heavy to lift, seek someone with more experience to bring the tree down safely.ĭeal with hung up trees immediately – never leave them. To untangle these, lift the butt and pull it briskly away. In cases where it has been coppiced before and there is a lot of regrowth it is easier to cut higher than this, where the stems are more separate and the weight is less, and to trim the stump afterwards.ĭuring the early stages many trees will get hung up. It is important that the bark is left intact and tight to the wood. See more detail about how to fell trees.Ĭut an angle of 30-45 degrees from the horizontal, or trim the stump to this afterwards. On larger stems, cut a felling sink in the front. Stems up to 15cm diameter should be undercut on the front (side facing the direction of fall) before being cut through from behind. Support the weight of the stem with one hand whilst sawing with the other. Stems up to 8cm diameter can be cut straight through. Post a lookout and stop felling if people approach. Make certain that other people are at least twice the distance of the height of the stems you are about fell. Remove any young growth around the outside of the stool. Time spent on this will save problems and avoid accidents.Look carefully at the tree to decide which way to fell the individual stems. Leave the stumps and roots intact so that they will resprout. Watch out for stones, glass and tin cans that can ruin a saw. Hands-on techniques for coppicing Clearing the work areaĬlear any shrubs, herbaceous growth and dead timber that might hinder safe working. If you are not certain of the group’s ability to identify species, mark the trees to be coppiced. Make certain that everyone knows the species or individual trees to be coppiced and those to be left alone.

We urge everyone who finds or knows about other products in the Church Presentation Software space, that are not in our list, to add a comment with a link to the product(s) website and optionally a short review/recommendation. We are going to keep adding new products as they appear on the market and move discontinued products and projects to the graveyard section (at the bottom of this post). And that’s when we decided to make an effort to compose such a list and dedicate our self to keep it updated. However, we couldn’t find a single post that offered an up-to-date listing of all the available Church Presentation Software products. Today, in 2023, the space has gotten a bit more crowded, with more products and offers, and the amount of web sites blogging about the Church Presentation Software space has grown significantly. It was obvious that there was a big crowd actively searching for options on how to handle the AV and multimedia content at their sermons and church services, and not many sites offering a listing of the available free alternatives. The comment section, which is still active today, was quickly filled with literal praise, questions and recommendations by our readers. That blog post, to our surprise, immediately got a lot of attention and shares on social media. More than four years ago we wrote a short post about the free and open source alternatives to the professional, and somewhat costly, church presentation software products that were available back then. Here’s how the MLB postseason dates line up from the Wild Card round through the World Series, along with the network that will broadcast each game. Teams that qualify for the postseason without the need of a tiebreaker can use this day to take a breather and line up their rotations. If Boston does qualify for the playoffs we at least have an idea of what days they will be playing, as MLB has released the 2016 postseason schedule.Īfter the regular season comes to a close there will be a day off to allow for any potential tiebreaker games. If they can’t hang on to the division crown then there remains a solid chance that the Red Sox can still make the postseason as a Wild Card team. They currently sit tied with the Toronto Blue Jays at the top of the AL East, with the Baltimore Orioles looming a mere two games behind them. Major League Baseball would never schedule a postseason game during such a throwaway time during daylight hours, I reasoned. It’s a bit too soon to say for sure, with the Red Sox locked in a tight divisional race. What we want to know is if this team will be participating in any playoff games this year. Will the Boston Red Sox still be playing in October? Well, the MLB regular season doesn’t end until October 2, so technically we can be assured that they will be. Expect some fireworks and playoff drama in this one.MLB has announced the 2016 postseason schedule, revealing the dates and network broadcasting each game for the Wild Card round through the World Series. On the Mets end, Noeh Syndergaard will have to live up to his godly moniker and overcome the pressure to deliver a solid game. Wednesday, Oct.5: National League Wild Card Game It will boil down to whichever team gets hot first and which team’s bullpen can outlast the other. This game could be a high-scoring game with both the Orioles and Jays boasting heavy bats and prolific hitters and both starting pitchers, Tillman for the Orioles, and Stroman for the Blue Jays have been lit up a few times by the opposing team. The Orioles are the playoffs’ biggest underdogs being as high as +2500 to win it all while the Blue Jays are the most favoured among the Wild Card teams at +850. Tuesday, Oct.4: American League Wild Card Gameīaltimore Toronto Blue Jays, Sportsnet. The Blue Jays opened as -150 favourites despite the Orioles edging them out in their regular season series, 6-5. It’s a pick’em between the Nationals and Dodgers, arguably the bracket’s closest match-up on paper. The World Series will begin on Tuesday, October 25th and be aired on FOX. The Mets’ opponent, the Giants are playoff monsters but face a steep climb to their fourth championship in seven seasons. Postseason play will begin with the American League Wild Card Game on TBS on Tuesday, October 4th. The Cubs who have the best odds according to books could end up rematching the Mets who swept them in the NLCS last time around. The Indians already get a tough test in the Red Sox who are one of the favourites to win the World Series. The Jays came back from a 2-0 series deficit to win and advance to ALCS. Interesting Scenarios: if the Blue Jays win their Wild Card game, this will set them up with a rematch to last year’s unbelievable series against the Texas Rangers. I think it's stupid and would love to have the option to disable this without losing my separate spaces for each monitor, but I guess this is the Apple way. you'll see it appears on any monitor you do this to (clearly being a feature). It's been ******* me off as well as I use 3 monitors, but I read on a different forum how to actually make it appear on a different monitor and all you have to do is actually move your mouse to the center of the screen, and move it all the way down as if you're trying to drive into the bottom of the screen.
